Jay-Z’s docuseries about the tragic murder of Trayvon Martin is set to makes its premiere at the 2018 Tribeca Film Festival in New York City.
There is a lot of expectation and enthusiasm for Jay-Z’s next project, Rest in Power: The Trayvon Martin Story, which is set to premiere at the 2018 Tribeca Film Festival.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the six-part series will provide a “definitive look at one of the most talked-about, controversial events of the last decade” while also highlighting the rise of the #BlackLivesMatter movement and the ongoing issue of police brutality.
The project is based on the book Rest in Power: The Enduring Life of Trayvon Martin, written by his parents, Tracy Martin and Sybrina Fulton.
Jay-Z serves as the project’s executive producer, alongside Sybrina Fulton, Tracy Martin, Chachi Senior, Michael Gasparro, Jenner Furst, Julia Willoughby Nason, and Nick Sandow. As Jay continues to push the envelope, helping black fathers to get out of jail, pushing the conversation about race, injustice and brutality in America and all-around putting his money and time where his mouth is — this year’s Tribeca Film Festival may be more about the statement made from its participants than who’s wearing what on the red carpet.
“We want to make sure that we stand and support and we never forget [that] Trayvon serves as a beacon of light to the people out here, so you guys never have to go through the pain and hurt that these guys went through,” Jay said during the 2018 Peace Walk & Peace Talk rally. “His name will sit alongside some of the greats who lost their life to push our culture forward—the Martin Luther Kings, the Ghandis; that the intention that we set, that his name serves as a beacon of light and hope, and pushes us into a better direction.”
For those attending the 2018 Tribeca Film Festival, Rest in Power will screen April 20 at NYC’s BMCC Tribeca Performing Arts Center, 199 Chambers Street.
